Old and brief Left systematics for biblical theology This book is a reprint of the 1973 Baker's Dictionary of Christian Ethics (over 30 years old!). As such it lacks the seriousness and academic excellence that much of modern, evangelical dictionaries have. It squeezes 700 topics into 700 pages, which means that the articles are too short for being on ethical issues, which usually are controversial with many opinions and arguments. Hence the discussion is absent and they are more of brief descriptions of what the author thinks. It would have been better with 100 topics on 700 pages. Look for another book!. A great ethics Dictionary This from the Preface: "To be sure, a dictionary is not an encyclopedia; its purpose, rather, is to provide a succinct statement of essentials. The reader will often be referred to related articles, and the bibliographies suggest additional helps." As a dictionary on the subject of Christian Ethics, it does a very good job. Covering a large area of topics with clear, readable informative material, often with scriptural reference for further biblical study. It is not a study on ethics. It is a great book to turn to first and gain a solid basic understanding.
