DESCRIPTION:

Each strip is accompanied by humorous yet informative text recounting the early struggles, successes, and challenges of each band. Engaging as well as informative, Tunes traces the rise of rock and roll through the format of comics. From Elvis and Little Richard to the British Invasion in the 1960s and onward through the eras of punk, heavy metal, new wave, and grunge, this series of black-and-white graphic depictions ranges from hilariously personal to absolutely wild. Also included is a selective discography for each band or artist, highlighting their biggest hits or most memorable songs.. Capitalizing on the immense popularity of the graphic novel, Vincent Brunner has assembled illustrators and cartoonists to visually depict the history of rock music through comics. This unique approach will not only appeal to those who grew up with the bands, but also to an entirely new generation of budding fans. Full of colorful personalities from larger-than-life divas to modest men who made it big, the story of rock is compelling and diverse

Disappointed The graphics were good but the information was sketchy. It should have been called " Some Obvious Highlights from the History of Rock and Roll - In Pictures". Many musicians and groups of equal stature and importance to those depicted were left out. Very superficial view of the "history".. "Educational" according to Michael G. Shafto. So, I understand why some folks will hammer this book for its omissions. It is not a coffee-table book surveying the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Most of the included performers are unquestionably heavy hitters, from the Beatles & Stones up through Nirvana & Radiohead. On the other hand, some relatively obscure groups like Captain Beefheart, New Order, The Stranglers, and LCD Soundsystem seem to have pushed out Creedence, Talking Heads, Steely Dan, Pearl Jam, Ween, and many other . Dissapointed This book should have been called: "Short strips that has somewhat something to do with Rock and Roll". I was expecting something like a year by year history of the medium that interconnected, but it's all very short strips about artists. Let's just say had I seen this book in a store I would have had the chance to leaf through it and it would have stayed at the store.

Vincent Brunner is a journalist who specializes in music and comics. Mathias Malzieu is the lead singer of Dionysos and also the best-selling author of a cult novel soon to be published in English, The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart.. He was music editor of Rolling Stone France

While some of the results are pretty straight forward -- artists Catel and Philippe Paringaux render Janice Joplin's death, Sébastient Lumineau draws the Ramones onstage -- others opt for a more oblique style." Book Forum“The comic strips are quite amazing and often incredibly abstract, which pairs nicely with Vincent’s witty & concise introduction to each artist.” typo-graphical“…Tunes takes readers through key moments in rock history. Brunner, a music journalist, utilizes comic book and graphic novel format to keep things moving with a fast and energetic pace.” Selectism. "For Tunes: A Graphic History of Rock and Roll (Universe, October), music journalist Vincent Brunner compiled thirty comics to illustrate key
