But at the same time, what amazes me is that their love for each other, and the humor they f. "An amazing story of love and courage" according to Eileen Lubas. This book manages to take an unflinching look at a horrible disease while still exuding humour, hope, and beauty. The relationship between Mother and Son is so honest and human and transends Mary's illness. Dr. Page lovingly brings his Mother to life for the reader and shares this journey. Unlike other books I have read about living with Alzheimers, this book truly lets Mary's spirit shine through, and illustrates beautifully how our loved ones are still there and still need to be attended . Just finished reading and still crying I was surprised that this book about a middle-aged son and his mother with Alzheimer's disease moved me so deeply. I think the reason I was so swept up by sadness at the end, is because of the frequent use of direct quotes from the author's mother. It makes her real. By the end of the story, I felt like I knew Mary Page. I also knew I liked her. We get a private window into their many poignant talks.
