By Far the Best Book on Crime in Detroit I've been waiting for a book like this for quite some time. And I was not disappointed. The Detroit True Crime Chronicles is by far the most comprehensive book on all aspects of crime in Detroit, and the metro area. Only the most interesting crime stories of the past century make it into this book. The Mafia, The Best Friends, The Purple Gang, and all of the major groups are covered in this book, quite fantastically if I may add. With all these amazing stories, its surprising how no one from Hollywood has written a script regarding any of these stories, they're that good. The chapters regarding the drug trade in Detroit I found eye-opening. Most of the American mafia related books written over the decades have been about N.Y. and Chicago, that's a fact. The New York & Chicago mafia's influence was cemented nationwide. This was done mainly . The World Beneath The City While doing a lot of reading about Detroit (my home town) lately, I came across THE DETROIT TRUE CRIME CHRONICLES: TALES OF MURDER AND MAYHEM IN THE MOTOR CITY.
