The title may give some indication of the book's strengths and its limits: evangelicals will argue that Jesus doesn't need to be rescued -- progressive Christians will praise the book's message that Jesus needs to be reclaimed and re-understood apart from the way He is viewed in conservative evangelical circles.I find the book most powerful when read as a collection of stories, stories that share the experiences of people who have been wounded, silenced, and even hated by evangelical culture.
