DESCRIPTION:
Wonderful book J. Flynn I've been in the mood to reread the old classics I read when I was a teenager. I couldn't put this one down when I started reading. But, keep your dictionary handy. Some of the words (e.g., thorasonic, spadassinides(sp?)) weren't even in my Kindle dictionary. Since Sabatini was fluent in 5 or 6 languages, and since this book is set in France during the pre-Revolution priodScaramouche, a French dictionary might also come in handy.. Captain Blood The geriatric Captain Blood, written by Rafael Sabatini back in the early 1930's. I purchased the book via WiFi and thoroughly enjoyed it. Based on the slave trade and piracy in the early 1800's. For older folk (like me ) will remember that several films were made using the format of Captain Blood starring Errol Flynn and it was therefore interesting to relive the experiences of the Captain. A good read for those with a bit of spirit for adventure
There, on a Caribbean Island plantation, the good Dr. How Blood distinguishes himself against his enemies, is the tale in this enjoyable historical adventure.. A gentlemanly Irish physician is innocently condemned to a life of slavery in the English colonies across the sea. Peter Blood, toils as a slave. A chance raid by Spaniards affords Blood his opportunity to escape into a life of piracy and crime upon the high seas. But Blood is a pirate with a sense of honor
