DESCRIPTION:

Mainly about the coast of SC This is a beautifully illustrated book and a lot of fun to read, but I was disappointed in the coverage of the state. Most of the alphabet is about the coast and especially Charleston. There is one letter about the entire upstate of South Carolina and a couple about Columbia.. "SC Grandmother" according to Retired in SC. I love, love children's books illustrated by Mary Whyte. She is one of the most talented artists ever. Mary is a SC transplant and we love having her here. She has an amazing understanding of South Carolina culture and expresses it so eloquently. We are truly blessed by her work.. Very interesting way to learn about South Carolina I really love the illustrations in this book. They are beautifully done, and the stories that go along with the pictures are short but informative. There are some terrific examples of some of South Carolina's rich, lesser known history. I would recommend this book for people with children (6-11 years old) that are studying South Carolina. We used it in a homeschool state study and found it wonderfully helpful.

Perhaps best known for her distinctive portraits, Whyte has traveled the country capturing personalities on canvas and paper. She and her husband Smith Coleman own an art gallery in Charleston, S.C., near where they live. and conducts painting workshops across the country. . She is a graduate of the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA. Carol Crane has written 14 books for Sleeping Bear Press, including the best-selling P is for Pilgrim: A Thanksgiving Alp
