DESCRIPTION:
Outstanding method book for beginners! AngryDrumGuy With a minor exception to grip approach (finger placement issue), this book is outstanding and the most well-rounded method to approaching percussion for beginners.Currently using this with private students and in the classroom, finding all fundamentals are covered with clear explanations. While I wouldn't recommend the book for self-teaching, it works well with supplemental instr. AnnMarie Stecher said Five Stars. Great BookMy sons loves it.
It is assured to become the new GOLD STANDARD by which all other methods are compared. This is the first method that doesn't teach down to the established norm, but elevates young children to be self-motivated learner/achievers. I think that Modern Etudes and Studies for the Total Percussionist will have great appeal for anyone teaching intermediate (middle school) percussionists. How cool is that!" --Dean Witten, Director of Percussion Studies, Rowan University"Among the greatest strengths of this book is the fact that it has been written to train students for the needs of modern percussion performance. As a follow-up to the standard beginning texts, this method will prove invaluable." --Gary Mallinson, Percussion Division Chair
Chris Colaneri is a percussion specialist and intermediate band director for the Berkeley Heights public school system in New Jersey and President of the New Jersey Music Percussion Educators Association.
In Modern Etudes and Studies for the Total Percussionist, band director and percussionist Chris Colaneri lays out a comprehensive system of total percussion education. This expanded second edition meets needs of fourth grade through high school percussion students, helping them develop necessary skills for future participation in their next level of musical study or extracurricular performing ensembles. These include a curriculum guide and practice assignment sheets for all grades; practice tips; and exercises and etudes for snare, mallet, set, and timpani. Developed with the practical needs of percussion teachers in mind, Modern Etudes has been extensively classroom tested and provides key teaching aids that will be welcomed by every band director. The lessons are gleaned from interviews, research, and the nearly two decades he has spent directing middle school band and percussion ensembles. Recordings, practice tracks, and videos are available on the book's companion website.
