"Loads of practical advice" according to twinsongsun. This book collects a lot of practical advice that you might have considered on your own, but weren't able to put together in one place. It's a little like an extended business for a single musician, although a lot of it concerns working with others in bands, too. There are also many fine and valuable details learned from the author's experience. Where it falls short, in my opinion, regarding bands, is how to make the leap from low-wage bar gigs (for instance) to higher-wage jobs. There is plenty of advice regarding how to boost professionalism, and to fill up your time earning a nickel here and a dime there, but not e. Excellent Book! Sky King Excellent book. Gave copies to my brother and nephew, both are musicians. Excellent book on the realities of making money in the music business. It's tough!. "A Great Book for Aspiring LOCAL Artists" according to ravnmerc@aol.com. This book has it all. A step-by-step guide to making money as a local musician. He emphasizes the fact that getting a record deal is not necessarily the best thing for a group or solo artist. He says that, although it can be done successfully, it is better to stay local so you will always have a fan base. I find it refreshing to see a book that is more realistic and less fantastic.
