This new edition is fully compliant with the latest version of Java, and includes updated programming exercises and programs.. Straightforward language is used to explain the reasoning behind each new concept, and numerous examples and exercises allow readers to practice solving problems and writing code. Designed for the beginning programming student, this book will motivate learners while teaching fundamental programming concepts. Based on years of classroom testing, this fourth edition of JAVA™ PROGRAMMING: FROM PROBLEM ANALYSIS TO PROGRAM DESIGN approaches programming with a focus on clear explanations and practice - two critical factors in mastering the Java language
"Very Disappointing" according to John A. Marcovitz. I had to use this book as part of a sequence in algorithms and programming at a local Jr College. We used the Very Disappointing I had to use this book as part of a sequence in algorithms and programming at a local Jr College. We used the 3rd edition but I understand that it is almost the same material as the current edition. Also I worked as a C++ production programmer for 15 years and I knew something about Java and Object Oriented Design before taking the course. This author does not understand the concepts of object oriented programming and even good structured coding. For example he can't say enough about a concept of his called parallel arrays in whi. rd edition but I understand that it is almost the same material as the current edition. If you're trying to teach yourself, don't rely on this book Rynaria This book is most DEFINITELY not meant to be a book for Java beginners. It's good for say a review if you already know some Java, but when it comes to explaining how or why certain things need to be the way they are, it doesn't do that at all.It offers examples with no explanations, shows samples of code without describing step by step how to create the code, etc. There are very few definitions to help you understand certain terms and it is not written in a manner that anyone can just pick it up and understand what's trying to be. "It's just too much" according to Rob. Sure problem solving is a part of programming, but so is application creating. This book to me seems likeit would be good for an intermediate class NOT FOR BEGINNERS!!! It doesn't cover a lot of what java cando such as servlets, data base functions , etc. It's just a bit too much when it comes to brain twisters. He needs to be more in depth with String manipulationas well.
