DESCRIPTION:
The authors of If You Were a Penguin, Wendell and Florence Minor, turn their attention to bears in the educational picture book If You Were a Panda Bear. If You Were a Panda Bear introduces different types of bears to young children. A section at the back includes even more fun animal facts. The full-color illustrations are playful and bring the personality of each bear wonderfully to life.. Through the poems in this charming storybook, kids will learn that pandas are shy and eat bamboo, black bears love to climb trees, and grizzl
Travis Ann Sherman said A little skimpy. The charm of these "If You Were" books lies in the big contrast with what kids are and what bears are. That contrast isn't used in this book, so you feel a bit cheated at the end. These bears aren't so different from us. They like to climb trees (so do we), they like honey (so do we), they even wear glasses (so do we). This book explores the superficial differences between bears, like the giant panda, the sloth bear, the Asiatic black bear, but it doesn't give much information in the cute little rhyming couplets on each page. Rather than save up the Bear Fun Facts for the end, it might have be. Good not great JWM Nice pictures and informative, rhyming text. A good solid book about bears, not just pandas. Doesn't quite grab your attention as much as a book about dragons and tacos or a sloth that goes on a shopping spree, but good nonetheless.. Because many of the poems pair a small fact or two with the nonsense of forced rhyme (e.g., "If you were a spectacled bear,/You'd have furry eyeglasses./And if you went to school,/You'd look smart in your classes"), libraries that purchase the book may want to consider cataloging it as a picture book. Each four-liner is divided between the one or two spreads allotted to each species. Skillfully detailed paintings show the variety in textures of the bears' fur-some soft, some wiry, others thick and fluffy. No redistribution permitted.
