I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Ice Cream Joyce June R. I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Ice Cream, Gasmasks and God" this past week. In fact I couldn't put it down as it is a real 'page turner'. She brought tears to my eyes on some pages, whereas on others, I burst at laughing as she incorporated both sad and humorous events into her story. This is a worthwhile. A tender, humorous and far reaching story of vision, faith and courage. Joyce Lovely has written a tender, humorous and far reaching story. A little girl in war-torn England, deprived of so much does not loose her vision of a better day and eventually defines for herself the faith that supports that vision. I would recommend this to anyone who has lived through the war exper. Wonderful read - gave me a new appreciation of the Wonderful read - gave me a new appreciation of the realities of life in World War II England. It was also a charming story of a girl growing up with dreams and goals that were not simply focused on marriage (definitely the cultural norm of the time) and the obstacles she faced.
