Jill Meyer I probably wouldn't have bought this book if Gail Parent hadn't been one of the two authors. I am the mother of two adult sons and I think I've done a fairly good job of raising them. But Gail Parent was one of my favorite authors from her fiction published in the 1970's and 1980's. "Sheila Levine" is still readable forty years after it was written and "The Best Laid Plans" is one of my favorite books. So, where has Parent been for the past 30 years. Not Impressed Although there was some good information, I found a lot of the comments offensive. Although Parent was probably to be funny, calling people idiots, etc. and calling their children names is not what I would call appropriate. Also, the book seems to lack diverse perspectives; there was too much focus on wealthy parents.

In this irreverent yet essential guide, a bestselling writer and a psychotherapist- both of whom have adult children-team up to provide witty and insightful advice for the millions who need help handling a range of perilous and very adult situations, including ? how to get a couch potato out of the house ? when to not pay for a child's wedding ? what to say about your kids' own parenting methods ? and much, much more. Today's "kids" are taking longer to move out, tend to marry later, and are baffling their parents with issues far beyond the expertise of Spock or Ferber. A funny and practical guide to parenting "grown" children

In their approaches, the authors differ: Parent, who wrote for The Golden Girls, is often tongue-in-cheek, while Ende takes a slightly more earnest approach. Census, 55% of men and 48% of women ages 18 to 24 are living with their parents: this trend has given rise to a host of financial and lifestyle conflicts. The questions--gathered from friends, relatives, and "strangers"-- are wide-ranging, from what to do when a college student trades the car his parents bought him for a motorcycle to how to deal with a dad who is dating his daughterÖs 28-year-old girlfriend.
