Five Stars Arrived in perfect condition (and is a wonderful book too).. Tedious reading with a poor narrative sense. Irving Warner The author clearly knows their topic. It is a pity they are unable to develop a clear and compelling narrative to the life of Henry II. Details, then details within details, thicken this soupy "read" until all sense of pleasure and color in reading about the life of Henry II evaporate. This is not a book for the general reader, even one with much background in the Middle Ages. Instead, "Henry II" is for scholars in search of finely woven exposition about the history of Henry. "Best Biography I've Ever Read" according to Pianissimo. This is not only the best biography of Henry II I've ever read, but it is one of the best non-fiction historical books I've ever read, too. The writing is lively, engaging, and often wryly amusing, though that may be in part because of the subject. Mr Warren does not in the least ignore or minimize the flaws of Henry II, but neither can he conceal a deep respect for this magnificent king.
