DESCRIPTION:
When her five little ducks disappear one by one, Mother duck sets out to find them.
For a more robust version, try the one from Raffi's "Songs to Read" series (Crown, 1988), illustrated by Jose Aruego and Ariane Dewey.?Dawn Ibey, Vancouver Public Library, CanadaCopyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc. Paparone's artwork, done in rich, saturated acrylics and colored pencil, effectively follows the rhyming pattern of the text. At the end of the day, she lures her youngsters home with milk and apple pie. Unfortunately, the ducks lack character. The ducklings are identical with no distinct personality traits. Mother Duck is shown doing a variety of household chores as well as engaging in a few hobbies. Despite this flaw, Five Little Ducks is a pleasant, gentle book reminiscent of days gone by. Similarly, Mother Duck has a vacant look and seems unconcerned about her offsprings' wanderings. . From School Library Journa
i know the five little ducks books is great, but amazon sent me the wrong book!!!! Annie i order from amazon all the time, but this is the first time they sent the completely wrong book. i figure since it was a small price, it's pointless to return and have it sent again.. Catchy rhyme and exquisite illustrations I intended to buy the book for a gift, then ended up keeping it for my boys (3 and 5 years old) and buying something else for the birthday girl. The rhyme is "Five little ducks went out one day, over the hills and far away. Mother duck said "Quack, quack, quack, quack", but only four little ducks came back". Each day another duck does not return home until no ducklings return. The mother duck goes on with her daily chores which lead up to a big apple pie for when all the ducklings come home. The ryhme makes children aware of counting backwards, subtracting and also that being home with mum is best. I have heard my 5 year . a favorite My 19 month old son adores this book. It's been his favorite since the first time we read it. He's fascinated with the illustrations - they are gorgeous and very interesting. I'm so glad that we were given this book. (We have the hardback)
