Pam Spencer, Mount Vernon High School Library, Fairfax, Va.Copyright 1986 Reed Business Information, Inc. Scientists discover that it was built by Earth people, but in the far distant future, and that a nuclear war is imminent. It becomes crucial that theoretical mathematician Patricia Vasquez discover why the former habitants left and where they went. Exploration shows that it is divided into seven man-made, hollowed-out chambers, indicating that it had been inhabited. Other humanoid life forms also exist, and in an amazing array of shapes, from snake-like creatures to floating blobs. It's unfortunate that the length may deter all but the most avid sci/fi fans. Bear's creativity provides a richness to an intricate, complex plot. Readers travel to worlds where humans may exist as memories in the City Memory Bank, corporeal representatives (ghosts) or incarnations. . New York Times bestselling author Greg Bear's Eon is now available for the first time in trade paperback. The 21st century was on the brink of nuclear confrontation when the 300 kilometer-long stone flashed out of nothingness and into Earth's orbit. The remains of a vanished civilization
R. Yarnell said I enjoyed it then in a print edition. I've posted on Greg's Discussion Page. He knows what's coming.I read EON shortly after it was published in 1985, I think. I enjoyed it then in a print edition, probably paperback. So far as I can remember, there were few if any manuscript errors. Not so with this edition from Open Road Media. Mr. Bear. I Gave Up Nathan Fairchild I've enjoyed Greg Bear's books in the past and was excited to read this, especially because it offered a series. I slogged halfway through Eon, seeing the creative ideas that went into the strange vehicle call the The Stone. Fascinating science and science fiction explored worlds of possibilities. Sci. Good Story Greg Bear is a favorite. His books contain exceptional plots (see "Vitals") with subjects relating to possible futures and based on today's true realities.
