DESCRIPTION:

"Good mystery deserves a better conclusion" according to kb from la. I enjoyed this mystery until the conclusion, which was so outrageously out of left field it spoiled the book. Too bad because the two main characters, Catherine Bishop and Jonathan Knight, are well-drawn and sympathetic. The plot was believable and moved along at a good pace. But when the chief villain was revealed, it felt like a cheat. The author might as well have said, "Oh, by the way, Bambi's mother did it." Surprisingly very good! This is the first novel written by Lisa Hartley that I've read, and it was surprisingly good! Now I wish I had read her first book before this one because "Double Dealing" reveals so much about the plot & outcome of the previous book that it's spoiled for me. So a word of advice: If you're interested in giving this new author a try, I strongly suggest you read "On Laughton Moor" first.I have nothing but praise for this novel so if you're a fan of police procedurals set in the UK, then I heartily recommend "Double Dealing" as well as those written by Jane Isaac (Unfamiliar Murder, Truth Will Out, and . "Happy to have discovered this series" according to Kindle Customer. This is second in the series, and I'm impatiently awaiting number three. The ending was perfect--even if it left me so anxious (but happily anxious) for the next DS Bishop novel.
