film When Siddalee Walker, eldest daughter of Vivi Abbott Walker (Ya-Ya extraordinaire - part Scarlett, part Katharine Hepburn, part Tallulah) is interviewed about a hit play she has directed, her mother is described as a 'tap-dancing child abuser'. Trying to repair the relationship, the Ya-Yas, Vivi's intrepid tribe of Louisiana girlfriends, sashay in and insist Sidda is sent 'The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood', a scrapbook of their lives together from the day in 1932 when they were disqualified from a Shirley Temple lookalike contest for unladylike behaviour. New edition of the international bestseller tying-in to major Warrier Bros. Expected to raise babies, not Cain, the Ya-Yas are bonded for life in an unforgettable exploration of the complexities of mother-daughter relationships and the power of female friendship.. Enraged, Vivi disowns Sidda - devastating her daughter who postpones her wedding and puts her life on hold until she is granted forgiveness

(Running time: 3 hours, 2 cassettes) --Anne Depue. The story moves back and forth from present to past when Vivi's daughter, Sidda, is faced with a crisis and is given the golden opportunity to explore the history of these devoted pals through her mother's secret scrapbook. This highly spirited interpretation of the cult classic is, like the book, full of humor and surprises. Her journey is sprinkled with her own memories of her irrepressible and irresistible mother, and she is rewarded with glimpses of true love and loyalty against an often hilarious and poignant backdrop of life in the rural South. It captures with ease the powerful lifelong friendship between four Southern women, the Ya-Ya's: Vivi, Teensy, Caro, and Necie. The author endows each of her charming characters with an inimitable Southern accent, from a low rumble for the aging oxygen-tank-carrying Caro, to the fresh innocent voice of Vivi as a child. "Mother-Daughter feelings exposed" according to KelBel2819. i saw the movie years ago when it came out and finally got around to reading the book. while parts were changed for a more dramatic and entertaining hollywood flow, overall, the mother-daughter feelings and complicated relationship were as raw and exposed as ever. it's a good book for all women - mothers and daughters - to read and bond. a great reminder all mothers started from girlhood to womanhood with their own unique experiences, including hardships and happiness.. "I loved the cast" according to Amazon Customer. I had tears in my eyes the whole movie.I loved the cast.I experienced my Mom's nervous breakdown, the town doctor prescribing "diet pills" and cigarettes and the breakdown of my parents marriage.I was spared the rage. My parents were stable and hid their anger.I related to each personality. I am also blessed with dedicated girl friends and loving siblings.A TERRIFIC MOVIE!. Great book that I thought started a little slow Great book that I thought started a little slow, but then pulled me in and by the time I was done I was wanting more. I rarely read fiction but another book (The Tipping Point - great read!) referenced it so highly I had to take a look. This book also gave me some good cry time that was carharticI would even venture to say that it helped me deal with some unexpressed mommy issues. I knew I had them but wasn't really in the market for dealing with them. May have saved me some counseling sessions should I choose to have some (agai
