DESCRIPTION:

Furthermore, Cisco Systems and other networking powerhouses are beginning to sell products for wireless office networks at prices not too far removed from those of wired products. Data Over Wireless Networks is a newcomer's guide to wireless telecommunications technologies, with an emphasis on wireless local area networks (LANs) not usually found in books that also cover telephony. --David WallTopics covered: Technologies for communicating data over the airwaves, including Analog Mobile Phone System (AMPS), Digital Advanced Mobile Phone System (D-AMPS), Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Bluetooth, and wireless local area networks (LANs) based on the IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN specification. . Many pundits believe that the real "volks-Internet" won't be Internet via TV, but rather the Internet presented on mobile phones and other handheld computing devic

Mixed bag for those who want an introduction to wireless There is an important caveat for buyers of technology books: do not trust the sensational hype on the covers. I think this sentiment has been neatly encapsulated in the previous review.Despite the obvious disparity between what's advertised and the actual product, much of this book is still well-written and . Ralph Langner said a waste of money and time. According to its subtitle, this book covers Bluetooth, WAP and wireless LANs. In reality, each of these topics is contained in one short chapter. The last chapter (on wireless LANs) begins with the sentence "No book titled Data over Wireless Networks would be complete without considering wireless local-area networks" -- absolutely true! But why does the author then go to great l. Where's the beef? My impression of the book is that it was rushed. The author seems to write "off the cuff." And it wasn't proof read very well, either. There are several glaring errors in the tables/figures early in the book. After seeing those, the whole work loses credibility. Another disappointment is the gloss over Bluetooth, though the title implies at least a serious introduction to the su

It discusses the next generation of wireless networking technology and vendor-specific applications such as Cisco and Motorola, and how these and the latest protocols will be implemented. There is also a discussion of how cell-phone users and PDA users are able to transmit and receive e-mail, access their LANs and surf the Web.. This work offers a look at the exciting area of data over wireless networks that is the emerging telecommunications revolution
