What makes Harrisburg, Pennsylvania's story most valuable lies not in its life but in its death - and in the actions of those who killed it. Now, he has authored a book sharing his experiences while detailing what went wrong. Each has its own instructive tale of success and failure. For four years, investigative reporter Chris Papst provided award-winning coverage of this unprecedented financial collapse. He currently works at ABC 7/WJLA in Washington, DC.. In late 2011, Harrisburg became the first - and only - capital city in American history to file for bankruptcy. Every city in America is unique. This is a well written technical book showing just how This is a well written technical book showing just how Wall Street manipulates States and Manicupalities. Specifically, how Major Reed obtained and dispensed monetary funds the state could never recover from. You can tell that there are many officials that were involved in this, otherwise he would be in jail. Instead, they delay trial, not because he will soon die, but because there are many prominent officials that were on the take.. A VERY COMPELLING READ !!!!! Herbert C Goldstein I have read this OUTSTANDING book. I have been a life-long resident of Harrisburg,Pa.----74 years. I have been very active in Harrisburg, and I practice Law in Harrisburg, Dauphin County,Pa. and in surrounding counties. I watched this happening--the financial disaster-BUT, I had no idea of all the multi,multi-million dollar transactions or the huge amount of monies spent on lawyers, other individuals, or financial firms. All of this only started to come out in recent years. It is still a mystery to me where were the watch-dogs over these transactions??There is a Pa. State-wide Grand Jury N. Capital Calamity Jack Reitnauer "Hokey Smokes Bullwinkle", and I thought Reading, PA was bad ("When the Rackets Reigned" by Taggert), but that was only the County Seat, not the Capital of the Commonwealth. Chris did an outstanding job chronicling the mishaps, missteps, mistakes and missed opportunities of Harrisburg. Chris makes it abundantly clear how the Dems (although I am not sure that was his intention), can mismanage a city, e.g. Baltimore most recently (or a state for that matter, as I used to live in CA.) But enough about that, let's get back to the book.It is a must read primer for any aspiring mayoral candidate
