For Atilla plans to march on the mighty city of Rome, the very heart of the empire. but is the risk too high, even for the most battle-hardened of warlords? Attila's choices play out on the plains Europe where he must ultimately face his destiny.. AD 449: the future of the world hangs in the balance. The once mighty Roman Empire lies open and vulnerable to attack from a huge Hunnish army that has gathered on the banks of the Danube and is poised and ready to strike - but only one man has seen the danger.Master-General Aetius knows Attila still thirsts for blood and destruction, but he is helpless to stop the the pending onslaught

as he begins a ruthless campaign of slaughter in revenge for Roman atrocities. As Attila and his warriors burn and kill across central Europe, the two Roman emperors, Valentinian in Rome and Theodosius in Constantinople, dither, bicker, and plot against each other, both relying on a disgraced but able Roman general, Aëtius, to save the empire. Napier (pseudonym of Christopher Hart) is a talented storyteller who pulls serpentine plots and big action sequences from historical fact, creating a muscular portrayal of fifth-century warfare between the Hun hordes and the crumbling Roman empire. Good research Love the subject matter but have a very difficult time reading this author. He seems to get so tied up in uninteresting details that the story can not maintain any pace. He would probably be a great candidate for a research assistant for an author like Conn Igulden.. Excellent ending to this trilogy about Attila the Hun! I read all 3 of these books, and loved each one equally. Napier starts at Attila's childhood in the first book, continues the second book by describing how he assembles the Huns into one skilledfighting machine, and end with "The Judgement" which tells about his fierce battles. Although this is historical fiction, it is based on many facts known about Attila and many real eventssurrounding his life, battles, and rule of the Huns. I absolutely loved these books!. ‘Was this Attila himself?’ Jennifer Cameron-Smith 449 CE. The final book in the Attila trilogy starts with Attila’s invasion of the Roman Empire, with his ruthless campaign of slaughter in revenge for Roman atrocities. While Attila and his warriors wreak havoc across central Europe, Valentinian in Ravenna, and Theodosius in Constantinople focus on undermining each other while relying on the able but disgraced Roman general Aëtius to save the empire.‘To think’, Aëtius murmured, shaking his head again, there were once four boys who played together on a Scythian plain. A Roman and a Hun, and Greek and Celtic slav
