I especially liked the 50's themed tales that are set in modern times like J.M Scott's Nathan's Folly. I live near Monterey California, so the story really hit home.. Do not expect subtlety, deep characters or intricate plots - just monsters, hero and villain scientists, good guys (usually) win.
