DESCRIPTION:
This is not the first English translation of Loynaz Sorry, but, while a worthy addition to the available publications, this is not the first English-language book of translations of Loynaz's poetry. It may be the first U.K. book, but Dulce Maria Loynaz: A Woman in her Garden, edited and translated by Judith Kerman, was published in the US by White Pine Press in 2002. ISBN 978-1893996557.. Good But Not Best Jack in Ft.Worth Dulce Maria Loynaz is Cuba's most recognized poet (albeit late in her life) and certainly its best. I do not think the translations match the life and subletys of the Spanish originals, or other translations (good but difficult to find) and that is the reason for the three stars.
James O'Connor is a poet, playwright, and translator. His work has appeared in the PN Review and other literary magazines in the United States. He lives in New York City.. Dulce María Loynaz was a poet, novelist, and member of the Royal Spanish Academy of Language
This collection contains poems from each of Loynaz's books, including the acclaimed prose poems from Poems with No Names, a selection of posthumously published work.. The first available English translation of this work shares numerous selections of the author's most popular poems. A cultural icon in her native Cuba, Loynaz's poetry was considered taboo because of its individualistic, apolitical preoccupations
